Zones
A zone is an area within which certain uses of land and buildings are permitted and certain others are prohibited. The current zoning ordinance for Prince George’s County has 73 zones.

Zoning can set standards for mixed-use development, street trees, the width of sidewalks and streets, the location and frequency of crosswalks, the placement of pedestrian refuges within medians and street lights. These features encourage people to walk because they feel safe and comfortable.
