ABCs of Zoning

Wetlands

A wetland is a land area that is saturated with water and takes on the characteristics of a distinct ecosystem. Wetlands play a number of roles in the environment, including water purification, flood control, and shoreline stability.

Walkablity

Zoning can set standards for mixed-use development, street trees, the width of sidewalks and streets, the location and frequency of crosswalks, the placement of pedestrian refuges within medians and street lights. These features encourage people to walk because they feel safe and comfortable.
